From coordinates to a readable street address
Coordinates are precise, but they are not always what you want to read out loud. When you are telling a taxi driver where to go, filling in a delivery form, or describing where you are to a friend, numbers are awkward β you need a human-friendly answer. Our tools convert your position into my location address: the street name, house number where available, city, postcode, and country where you are standing. That turns a raw satellite fix into something you can actually say and write down.
Behind the scenes, the process that turns coordinates into an address is called reverse geocoding. Your device first determines your latitude and longitude, either from GPS satellites or from your network connection. Those two numbers are then sent to a mapping database, which searches for the closest known address point and returns the details. We use OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service β an open, community-maintained map of the world β to look up your location address. Because the map is constantly updated by volunteers, new streets and buildings appear over time.
There are three easy ways to discover your address on this site, each suited to a different situation:
You may notice that the address returned is not always perfect, and that is normal. In dense city centres, where buildings are numbered closely together and the map data is rich, the result is usually spot-on. In rural areas, newly built estates, or places with sparse mapping, the nearest match might be a road name, a junction, or a nearby landmark rather than an exact house. This does not mean your coordinates are wrong β only that the closest labelled address in the database sits a short distance away.
If the address looks slightly off, a few simple steps often improve it:
Once your location address is displayed, a one-tap copy button lets you drop it straight into a message, a form, or a navigation app. It all happens in your browser: we do not store your address, keep a history, or require you to sign in. That keeps the tool fast and keeps your whereabouts private.
